Surrogacy
What is Gestational Surrogacy?
Gestational Surrogacy is when the biological child of another couple is carried to term and delivered by a women that is not related to that child. The pregnancy is created through IVF (In vitro fertilization) from an ovum (egg) from the Intended Mother or egg donor and sperm from the Father or sperm donor.
Because the surrogate or host mother is not genetically related to the surrogate, the race of the surrogate does not impact the race of the child.
The couple that intends to raise the child are called the Intended Parents. Single parents can also be the sole parent to a child through surrogacy and their name (regardless of gender) is the sole name on the birth certificate.
Host Moms Uganda understands that each country has different requirements regarding parentage and we can assist you with meeting those requirements.
Uganda does have pre birth orders, and post birth orders can be arranged as well.
A pre birth order is a court order that solidifies your parentage during the pregnancy through a court order. A post birth order confirms your parentage after delivery.
Ethical Surrogacy
In Uganda, women vote for a Womens’ Minister to represent women’s issues in Parliament. While there were only a few cases of Surrogacy happening in Uganda, the Women’s Minister was concerned about the practices and if the Surrogates were being protected and represented. She invited experts from the United States in 2020 to consult with not only the government, but medical professionals, religious leaders, etc. to consult on how Uganda could create ethical surrogacy regulations. While speaking with other government agencies it was realized that Surrogacy could also solve another problem facing the Ugandan government. Many educated women leave Uganda to find work in other countries, especially the middle east. Many of these women are being abused by their employers or their organs are being harvested and many other terrible issues. Surrogacy provides an opportunity for women that are currently under employed to get training and start up capital so they can start their own businesses. This arrangement creates a mutual benefit for the surrogate and the Intended Parents.

What makes Host Moms Uganda different?
In addition to ethical practices Host Moms Uganda also arranges for training, called skilling in Uganda, in business, financial literacy, and a practical skill chosen by the Surrogate. Each Surrogate creates a plan for their new business, including start up costs, marketing, target market, during our financial literacy program. A savings plan is created so that the surrogate can have a portion of her surrogacy income saved in her bank account and the balance sent to her mobile money for easy access each month.
The URA, (the Ugandan Revenue Service) has set a special tax rate for Surrogacy. Escrow will withold that portion from the relevant payments and pay the withheld taxes on her behalf to the URA. This protects the Surrogate from any unexpected or future tax liability.
